Right, first and foremost we have made it out of Mongolia. My christ it was a tough last few days but in true spirits we pushed on. We made great time to Olgil as the roads improved slightly and then a day to the border. We hit the border spot on, 4 O'clock on a Friday evening. Everyone keen to get the hell home and we were wisked through in a little over an hour and a half. As apossed to the six hours on the way in. We stayed in a shitty little town in Russia but we were back on the black stuff, tarmac. Its was magic. Now don't get me wrong Mongolia is one amazing place. They live at a different pace of life. Its is a remote but beautiful country. We expected it to be hard and looking back it is easy to say, maybe we would have fell cheated if we had just crused through without any issues. The tyre held till the far side of the border were it decided to go again. A new puncture on the bloody good road. Not the 600 km of rutted stoney knife like roads in Mongolia, but the nice tarmac. Murphy's law. I did'nt care it was sunny and we were not far from Barnaul and a new tyre. Its was time to go through the motions and get it sorted.
We drove through the Altai region of Russia on the way to Barnaul and my god it is amazing. Just like the French Alps. Lovely twisty roads, rivers and lakes are over the shop. We camped in a forest becise a river and had a feed in the local cafe, no idea what it was, fish of some decription. Ordering food in Russia is tricky. We are getting better. A few beers and a camp fire, just magic. Nice to reflect on the journey through Mongolia. Yes Griff it was a much better than our effort in Gisbourne. Best trick for the camp fire is petrol. Plain and simple, no flints, or rubbing sticks. Just good old gas and lots of it. Great for trimming the eyebrows as well, especially if they grow like mine. Elliott's are famous for their eyebrows. Any way enough of that.
On the way to Branaul we met a group of Russian bikers at a gas station. We exchanged a few words tooks some photo's the usually. On arriving to Barnaul Patricks gps was acting the ham and we had a waypoint of a biker bar in Barnaul and a name for Victor who is the man for motorbikes in the town. No idea of where to go when the Russian boys we met in the gas station pull up. "You go to bike bar", yes we replied, "Ok follow me". Right so. Here we go again on another mad adventure following these serious bikers through the town. We arrive at the bar and they have stables for the bikes, every bike gets one. Very cool. We park up and then it's, come, come follow us. Into this basement bikers bar. Myself and Patrick are asking about a hotel, no, no, you just sleep in the bar. I have been in a lot of bars but none that you roll out the sleeping bag in the back room. After that food and beer by sack load were produced. It all went tits up after one of them came in with a bottle of jamenson and two carton's of apple juice. It was shots of jemmy and a glass of juice. After several hours of this and the tunes hammering away all of which are Ramstien and heavy metal, myself and paddy were in a fine state I can tell ya. The bar man put us to bed in the back room of the bar which is also the club room at god knows what time. We awoke that morning with Paddy under the table and me asleep on to of it. Tight night.
We set off the next morning with the lads again as we had agreed that night we are all driving to Omsk together. Why the hell not. They showed us the way to Victors underground bike shop and new tyres was produced. Magic stuff. He had it changed in no time. We headed off down the roads with our new mates. They have bugger all english and our Russian is far from fluent I can tell ya. But so far so good. We are now in some Apartment in Nocicerbisk and it's off to the beech and then the Sauna later on. Its really does not get any better. They are a magic bunch and we have fallen on our feet yet again. The luck of the Irish. Well something like that .........

Great ideas of blogging for effective traffic. Point 9 particularly caught my eye with reference to Julien Smith. I certainly agree its best to call it as we see it and treat our audience as friends. But most importantly we should put our personality into our writing.
