Humble Beginnings

Right, first post from the road, sorry it has taken so long...

It feels like I should produce something of worth here, stories of great hardship or fortune but alas, the trip is young and the territory civilized so instead I'll embellish liberally. Almost a week in and we`re beginning to get all our ducks in a row, we had a list of items we had to pickup over here and with the purchase of a laptop yesterday afternoon we`re finally able to give the blog a good deal of attention, apologies for the scarcity of posts during the first week, just to confirm we are both alive and well.

The first week has flown by, Kieran has already gone over the first few days so I`ll skip over that here. Our first major stop off was in Montreal, 544 kilometers north east of Toronto. The drive up was all kinds of awful, torrential rain and heavy traffic for the best part of 6 hours meant that once we reached the extremities of the city we were keen to get off the bikes and dry off. The following day we encountered the first notable act of 'super human kindness' by Marc Sawaf, the owner of Canada's Motorcycle, who gave us a second set of bluetooth headsets just in-case the other set broke along the way. Anyone who may be reading this in Canada or North America I cannot recommend a supplier more. We decided to spend another night in Montreal, to move beyond the industrial outskirts and see the city for real, we rode downtown in the late afternoon and settled into a bar for a burger and a brew.

It`s probably worth noting at this point that no-matter where we stop the Canadian`s have been so interested in us and our bikes, they can`t believe what we`re doing and are quick to offer ideas on the route and horror tales about friends who have had encounters with 1 of the one thousand animals that can and will eat your face - whatever. Anyway, within about 20 minutes we got chatting to a local bike enthusiast called Mike — he had done a good deal of motorbike travel before and was keen for us to have a good time while we were in town. He brought us to this gorgeous little hostel downtown where we checked into, dropped off some bags, lightened our riding gear and then spent the next four hours riding around in the evening light. We rode back to Toronto the following day, both fairly eager to start making our way out west.

Today was the first day that we really began to mark the map. We left Ontario at around 9am with a plan to drive 750km west bringing us just beyond Chicago. With the exception of one day the weather has been unbelievable, we spent the morning riding through the most picturesque farmland with red wood barns and an occasional hawk hunting high above the vast expanse of land that spans in every direction. We made the Bluewater border at about 10.30 am and managed to pass into the United States without a cavity search, given the bang coming off our riding gear we could have had a great big bag of drugs peaking out from between our legs and there was little chance of any official going near us even with the thickest of glove. I had a lovely cheery fellow by the name of Dane who took my photo and my finger prints and asked me all sorts of questions that even if they had been true I wouldn`t have told him. The pen I used to sign my document was quite nice so I decided to ask Dane if I could keep it, this is what he said:

Sir, do you need to use that pen to administer an emergency I.V?

I told Dane that I didn`t, that I just liked it. He then told me that unless I needed the pen for an emergency I.V. I wasn`t allowed have it. Dane, if you`re reading this, that rule is ridiculous.

Anyway, from there we continued across Michigan and into Illinois, through more rolling fields and enormous farms. We passed through Chicago just before sundown with the downtown highrise being dramatically cast against an impressive lightening storm. It seems like a great city but we were keen to keep making progress, we are set to be in Calgary on the 20th for more maintenance to my suspension. A busy few days ahead to make it in time, will keep you posted.

I absolutely love your blog and find a lot of your post’s to be precisely what I’m looking for. Would you offer guest writers to write content for yourself? I wouldn’t mind composing a post or elaborating on a lot of the subjects you write regarding here. Again, awesome blog!

well-made and comfortable. i almost ordered Jimmy Choo Pumps, but contacted louboutin, explained what type of foot i have, and ordered my actual size based on their recommendation. if you have Jimmy Choo Wedges, your foot probably won’t fit into these—at least not comfortably. if you have normal-wide feet, you may want to order up a size. if you have fairly narrow feet—or at least narrow relative to most people—and tend to get blisters from most heels because the shoe doesn’t fit enough securely, get your actual size. these heels are true to size, but they’re tailored for a more petite, slender foot.

My boyfriend got these for me for my first ever pair and Christian Louboutin Galaxy uk are perfect! The color is amazing and they are actually pretty comfortable for right heels. My boyfriend got this Christian Louboutin Slingbacks sale and they fit perfectly. They stretch a lot, so if they are even a tad big then go a half size down. The shoe fit specialist told me they should be super snug when you buy them, almost as if you’re foot is going to pop out, because they stretch so much. The red sole does rub off after only a few wears, so be prepared. But, the wear is only apparent to you and the part that doesn’t touch the ground is still pristine. I am completely in love with these shoes and will have them forever!!!
